physical digital mask

Physical Digital Mask was developed during the COVID quarantine. During that time we became used to anonymity in the physical world. With masks being required in most places the transition of work and schooling to online prompted the questions of anonymity in these new channels. This sculpture was designed with a physical execution in mind to allow for a physical representation of a digital mask. The digital model was developed through computational design methods by draping a surface over a scan of a face followed by abstracting that surface with extruding rectangles correlating with the shape of the face and randomizing the bits around the face to blur the identity. | Westerlund |
